AFTERCARE
At Refined Laser Tattoo Removal, our Certified Laser Technicians work on completely removing/lightening tattoos with State of the Art Lasers. Each client is assessed with a complimentary consult to evaluate the skin/tattoo, make sure the process is understood, and is aware that multiple treatments will be needed.
PROCESS
Aftercare: Laser Tattoo Removal
Your treatment is complete - now the healing and fading process begins.
Following proper aftercare is essential for safe healing and optimal results.
What to Expect (Normal Reactions)
After treatment, you may experience:
• Redness and warmth (similar to a sunburn)
• Swelling
• Tenderness
• Frosting (a white appearance immediately after treatment)
• Blistering or scabbing in some cases
These reactions are normal and typically subside within a few days.
The First 24 Hours protect the area
• Leave the treated area alone for the rest of the day.
• If a bandage was applied, keep it on as instructed.
• Keep the area clean and dry.
Reduce swelling
• Apply a cool compress
(wrapped — never ice directly on the skin) for 10 minutes on / 10 minutes off as needed.
• Elevate the area if swelling occurs.
Discomfort
• Mild discomfort is normal.
• Over-the-counter pain relievers may be used if needed (follow label directions).
Cleansing & Care (Days 2–7)
Clean gently (1–2 times daily)
• Wash the treated area with Recovery Soap (recommended) and lukewarm water.
• Gently cleanse — do not scrub or exfoliate.
• Pat dry with a clean towel (do not rub).
Moisturize lightly
Apply a thin layer of one of the following to support healing:
• A&D Ointment
• Aquaphor
• Calendula
Use only enough product to keep the skin comfortable.
Over-applying ointment can slow healing.

Itching & Histamine Reactions
Itching can be mild to intense and is often caused by a histamine response during the healing process.
• Do not scratch or pick at the area.
• For extreme itchiness, you may take an over-the-counter antihistamine/allergy medication (such as Benadryl, Zyrtec, Claritin, or similar).
• Cool compresses may also help relieve itching and discomfort.

Blistering & Scabbing
Blistering may occur, especially with dense ink or sensitive areas.
• Do not pop blisters.
• Keep the area clean, dry, and protected.
• If a blister opens on its own, do not peel the skin.
• Apply a thin layer of ointment and cover with a non-stick dressing if needed.
What NOT to Do
For at least 7–10 days, or until the area is fully healed, avoid:
• Hot tubs, pools, lakes, saunas, or steam rooms
• Heavy sweating or friction
• Direct sun exposure
• Tight clothing rubbing the treated area
• Picking, scratching, or exfoliating
• Retinol, acids, scrubs, or harsh skincare products
Sun Protection
Sun exposure can slow healing and increase the risk of pigment changes.
• Keep the treated area covered when possible.
• Once fully healed, apply SPF 30+ daily.
• Do not apply sunscreen to open or broken skin.
Results & Treatment Timing
Your body continues flushing ink for weeks after treatment.
• Fading occurs gradually over 6–12+ weeks.
• Sessions are typically spaced 8–12 weeks apart, sometimes
longer depending on skin and ink.
• Allowing proper time between treatments
helps protect the skin and maximize results.
